“How did I get the virus? Looking at the news … »- Corriere.it

“Do you have any idea how you got sick?” Watching the news ». Signed @ mrmancini10. That is the Instagram account of the national team coach, Roberto Mancini. The cartoon, which depicts a patient in a hospital bed answering the question of how he got infected, was launched as a “story” on Thursday afternoon and immediately sparked great controversy on social media, where many considered the exit out of place and disrespectful. Many attacked Mancini: “Someone stop Roberto Mancini, he is not on the group of friends of the Friday night football”, reads a message. On the same tenor the message of another user: “Go and explain it to the families of the victims of Covid-19, who perhaps have watched too much TV”.

The controversy with Speranza

At the beginning of October Mancini had entered into serious controversy with the Minister of Health, Roberto Speranza after he had argued that «the priority is the schools, not the stadiums. We cannot take risks to bring thousands of people back to the stadiums ». During the press conference on the eve of Italy-Moldova in Florence on 6 October, Mancini had been very hard on the minister: «You should think before speaking. Sport is everyone’s right just like school. It is an important part of society, like education and work. Sport is practiced by millions of Italians. Rest of my idea. I am not conditioned. I am in favor of the reopening of stadiums as a percentage, as happened in so much of Europe ». Now Mancini has gone even further. With a dubious exit.

In the evening the coach tried to explain his speech: «I only shared a cartoon that seemed to me to play down such a complicated moment. That’s all. There was no implied message and no intention of disrespecting the sick and victims of Covid-19, if so I apologize “.
