House wants Cabinet to stop Schiphol’s purchase of nitrogen space: ‘Put an end to Wild West practices’ | Politics

Cabinet must end buying farmers for extra nitrogen space for aviation and highways. Two proposals in this sense have been adopted by the House of Representatives.

The fact that Schiphol Airport buys nitrogen rights indiscriminately, MPs go the wrong way from left to right. “The practices of the Wild West must stop,” says Derk Boswijk (CDA). He can’t stand the fact that the airport is now hastily buying up the rights, while a group of about three thousand farmers have been waiting for the permit for years.

The CDA member wants “immediate measures to be taken, so that nature and PAS journalists take precedence”. By this he refers to farmers who have taken all kinds of sustainable measures, because they would then have received a permit from the government. However, the judge referred the so-called PAS scheme to the wastebasket, which means that this group of farmers does not yet have a permit. The motion adopted by the CDA, BoerBurgerBeweging (BBB) and the SGP states that the nitrogen space must be used for the legalization of PAS detectors and the restoration of nature. And that ‘the hunt for nitrogen on farmers for highways and aviation’ must end.

GroenLinks argued last year that the first purchase right should go to the municipality. “Now it looks like the Wild West and that drives up the price,” regrets MEP Suzanne Kröger. “It’s absurd for Schiphol or Rijkswaterstaat to buy that space.” A motion adopted by GroenLinks and the Party for the Animals says that the Schiphol Group will not farmers can buy morebecause allocating scarce nitrogen space is “a social consideration.”

,,Now take control”, also asks Thom van Campen (VVD). “But if the companies come to an amicable solution with Schiphol, I’m not against it in principle.” “If you are a farmer and have heard for three years that you have been helped, and now you hear that nitrogen space is being bought at Schiphol, then you think: how? I don’t understand that either.”

The same government also wants to have more say in the purchase of nitrogen space. The cabinet hopes to have arranged by April that the right of first purchase belongs to the government.
