‘House-Made’ Winner Cédric van the Boost Reflects on Tension, New Career

Cédric van the Boost, winner of “House-Made,” recently revisited the show to assist new contestants. The experience brought back a flood of memories and a stark reminder of the pressures involved.

Returning to the ‘House-Made’ Frenzy

Cédric, along with Enis Mujakovic, winner of “House-Made 2023,” assisted Axelle and Seppe in Nieuwpoort. Their help extended to other contestants as well.

Everywhere we helped for two hours. With one couple we hung up a bathroom furniture, with another duo we had to place a shower wall very carefully. That gave a lot of stress, as it could easily break. And we could solve some mistakes in the plumbing. Our help was welcome. We were busy for a whole weekend, because those buildings were far apart.

The experience was a stark contrast to Cédric’s current renovation projects.

The Tension Returns

Cédric described the resurfacing tension upon returning to the “House-Made” habitat.

As soon as I had stepped in the middle of the house, I felt the tension of yesteryear again.

He elaborated on the pressures he felt.

In the beginning I thought I could help in peace.Just like it goes at work every day. But as soon as I am in the middle of it again House -made-adventure had stepped, I felt the tension of yesteryear again. I was again confronted with the time pressure and the fear of things that threatened to go wrong, which could cause us problems. With every misstep I would feel guilty, as I know better than anyone what depends on it. I also felt the nervousness with the duos.

A New Chapter in Antwerp

Sence his participation in the show, Cédric has undergone significant changes. The building he renovated with his then-girlfriend Anaïs Kluste in Antwerp-Noord has been sold.

He has since purchased a new property in Antwerp, seeking a fresh start.

I bought a new place in Antwerp, where I want to make a fresh start. Returning, but without tight deadlines.

This new project allows him to renovate at his own pace, a welcome change from the show’s intense deadlines.

He contrasts the experience:

At that time it often had to be completed in a few days, and that gave an immeasurable amount of stress. I can now renovate at ease, and that is a world of difference. I notice it when I am busy in my flat, that the feeling is entirely different.

renovating on His Own Terms

Cédric now has the freedom to make his own design choices, without the pressure of pleasing a jury.

He is also undertaking the renovation with the help of his own team.

My own staff is coming to renovate. I have sold my house, and only bought my new building on the same day. So I have to stay with friends until the flat is ready. It is a total renovation. The faster, the better. I now work every day of the week.

From Roofer to Plumber

Cédric has also made a career switch, transitioning from roofing to plumbing.

I am a plumber now. My uncle has been a plumber for years, and that inspired me. It was through House -made That I noticed that I found plumbing more pleasant than working on a roof. I asked my uncle if he needed extra helping hands, and soon I started to help him more often than I was still on a roof. Of the ten projects, perhaps one on one roof is currently taking place, the rest are bathrooms and plumbing. The one day a month that I am still on the roof is mainly for leak detection. Laying a complete roof has long passed.

the ‘Jungle Badkamer’ Legacy

Cédric’s “Jungle Badkamer” design from the show remains a popular request.

You do not want to know how many quotation requests were there for that ‘Jungle Badkamer’. There are also some effective placed.

The show provided a significant boost to his career.

The program not only gave me a free house, but also a flying start in terms of work. My customer base grew visibly. We are three years later, but people still know me and that does wonders. Even in the supermarket they still speak to me regularly.
