The Panhellenic Federation of Hoteliers (POX) refutes the government’s narrative about reducing tax burdens. At the recent annual general meeting the members expressed their explicit and categorical reaction to what they described as overtaxation of the hotel industry. “Today the commitment to reduce VAT on accommodation should have been implemented. Instead, we found ourselves paying the durability fee,” said POX president Ioannis Hatzis. He was also critical of the practices of Kyriakos Mitsotakis: “There are not a few times when we have the feeling that we are being punished because we succeed.” As the vice-president of the Association of Greek Tourism Enterprises (SETE) Agapi Sbokou explained, the overtaxation of tourism is the easy solution for burdens that do not belong to it and she focused on its contribution to public finances: 28.5 billion euros in 2023 or 13% of GDP, with multipliers pushing it to 30%. Appearing as the patron of the business world Mr. Mitsotakis is now naked. Reality “undresses” the liar…
