Hotel New York receives a police visit after photos of a neighbor across the street: ‘Our seats have been locked for a long time’

Hotel New York received a visit from the police last week following a special tip. A neighbor across the street had taken pictures with a telephoto lens, which would show that the hotel would rent out chairs. “But the seats are just neatly locked,” said general manager Roel Dusseldorp.

Due to the nice weather it was busy on the Kop van Zuid. Many hikers sought out the patch of grass in front of the hotel. “It was really busy. We now have a snack bar, it was busy there too, but manageable.”

The visit of the police surprised Dusseldorp, but he also understands it. “They just do their job and I think they are also obliged to do something with it. And they had also seen themselves that it was busy at the Kop van Zuid. But that chair rental is nonsense, they also saw themselves that all terrace chairs with a cable is locked.”

Crowds on the lawn

Dusseldorp understands the thought of his neighbor across the street. He is disappointed that he went to the police with the photos. “I have nothing against our neighbor across the street. I sometimes walk past somewhere and then I think: ‘so that’s busy’. But it will be less in an hour. And then I let it run. Our neighbor across the street decided something with it But the crowds on the lawn, we can’t do anything about that. That’s from the municipality.”

The general manager of Hotel New York posted a message about the incident on Facebook and LinkedIn. There are many comments on the posts. “That was not entirely the intention,” Dusseldorp laughs. “But it’s a shame, if the neighbor had just stopped by, we could have talked about it. Then he would also have seen that it wasn’t right. And then he could have eaten a potato stew, haha.”
