Government Saudi Arabia announced the withdrawal of its Ambassador to Lebanon and gave the Lebanese ambassador 48 hours to leave the kingdom. This was done after a Lebanese minister made “insulting” remarks about Mr the Yemeni war.
As reported AFP, Saturday (30/10/2021), Saudi Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated, the kingdom ordered the “summon of the Ambassador in Lebanon for consultations, and the departure of the Lebanese Ambassador from the kingdom within 48 hours of the “insulting” remarks made this week by the Lebanese Minister of Information.”
It said the Saudi government had also “decided to stop all Lebanese imports”.
Lebanese Prime Minister Najib Mikati reacted quickly, saying he “regretted” the Saudi government’s move.
“We deeply regret the government’s decision and hope the government will reconsider. As for us, we will continue to work to resolve what needs to be resolved,” he said.
Previously, Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates on Wednesday (27/10) local time had summoned the Lebanese ambassador over Information Minister George Kordahi’s criticism of the Saudi-led military coalition fighting the terrorist group. Houthi rebels from Yaman.
