Hostess is reviving Suzy Q’s, the creme-filled chocolate cakes last available nationwide in 2012, sending devoted fans into a frenzy. The iconic treat began appearing on Target shelves September 26, 2024, and will roll out to other retailers in the coming weeks.
The return of Suzy Q’s taps into a powerful wave of nostalgia for a generation who grew up with the snack, and reflects Hostess’s successful strategy of bringing back beloved, discontinued products. The cakes are currently available in a 5-count pack for $3.69 at Target as of September 27, 2024, Eastern Time.
Originally introduced in 1970, Suzy Q’s quickly became a lunchtime staple and after-school favorite. Hostess Brands,LLC discontinued the Suzy Q’s nationwide in 2012,focusing on other product lines. Though, demand for the treat never fully waned, with online petitions and social media campaigns persistently calling for its return.
In 2023, Hostess began a limited regional test of Suzy Q’s, gauging consumer response before committing to a full-scale relaunch. The positive reception prompted the company to announce the nationwide return in August 2024. The 13-ounce packages contain five individually wrapped cakes.
