With. Request. Five associations of caregivers, patients and lawyers asked the Council of State on Monday to “force” the government to requisition factories to manufacture the masks, tests and drugs needed to fight the coronavirus epidemic.
Green light. A quarter of the 10,000 food markets in France will reopen this week under strict sanitary conditions, which should allow some producers to sell cheeses, cold meats or asparagus blocked by the epidemic. The vast majority of reopened markets have fewer than ten traders and are located in small towns.

Emmanuel Macron visits Tuesday morning the mask factory of the Kolmi-Hopen SME on the outskirts of Angers (Maine-et-Loire), the largest of the four French producers, in the midst of the controversy over the lack of masks in the face of the coronavirus. Italy. The confinement imposed on Italians for nearly three weeks will be “Extended at least until Easter”, announced Monday evening the Italian Minister of Health, Roberto Speranza. The country has the highest number of deaths in the world, 11,500, for nearly 98,000 cases. Belgium. A 12-year-old girl died in Belgium as a result of Covid-19, the country’s health authorities announced on Tuesday. “It’s a very rare event, but one that upsets us”, said the Dr Emmanuel André, one of the spokespersons for the authorities. This is the first time that the death of a child has been reported in Belgium, where a total of 705 people have died from the new coronavirus, according to official figures.
China. China’s growth will slow sharply this year due to the coronavirus, but by how much? It could rise to + 2.3%, against + 6.1% in 2019, or even fall to only + 0.1%, according to a pessimistic scenario unveiled by the World Bank. On the other hand, poverty in the Southeast Asia and Pacific region could increase even in the darkest scenario.
United States. The pandemic continues to progress in the world, in particular in the United States which now records more than 3,000 deaths and lists the largest number of confirmed cases with more than 163,000 cases.
