ELY, MINNESOTA – November 21, 2024 – Ely Health and Hospital Foundation members will convene December 1st at The hub, 760 East Miners Drive, for their annual meeting begining at 7 p.m. The meeting will feature a financial report,the election of three board members,and a year-in-review presentation from hospital CEO Patti Banks.
Members eligible to vote – those holding a $100 Health and Hospital foundation membership - can cast ballots in advance or at the meeting. Candidates for the three open board seats are incumbent members Tim Riley and john Saw, and Michael Pettinelli.
The meeting also provides a snapshot of the hospital’s financial standing. While 2024 saw increases in admissions, surgeries, and overall hospital visits, Ely’s seasonal tourism patterns continue to impact revenue, peaking in summer and declining in winter.EBCH reported a net loss of $258,838 on total income of approximately $32.1 million for the year.
This year’s meeting marks the 14th year operating under a governance structure established to ensure foundation independence. Members directly elect foundation representatives, who then appoint members to the hospital board. This model was implemented to facilitate potential future transitions, such as a transfer of control to an association like Essentia, and maintains a dedicated fund for assets in the event of such a transfer.
