Hospital admissions drop slightly – De Standaard

While the number of hospital admissions has fallen slightly from a week earlier, the number of covid patients in hospitals continues to rise for the time being, albeit slightly. This is evident from the preliminary figures from health institute Sciensano on Monday morning.

In the seven days up to and including Sunday, an average of 254 patients with covid-19 were admitted to hospitals in Belgium every day. This is a slight decrease of 3 percent compared to the previous week.

The number of patients in the hospitals themselves will continue to rise slightly for the time being. It involved 3,084 covid-19 patients (+6 percent), of whom 899 in intensive care units (+8 percent).

The number of newly confirmed coronavirus infections is also declining. In the week from April 2 to April 8, this averaged 3,558 per day, one fifth less than in the previous seven days. 29 percent fewer tests were performed (45,200) and the positivity ratio increased slightly to 8.9 percent (+ 1.1 percent).

Deaths are still on the rise. In the week of April 2-8, 43 people succumbed to covid-19 daily, 46.6 percent more than in the previous week.

Since the start of the corona pandemic, our country has recorded 23,473 deaths.

1,855,977 people in our country have also received at least one dose of a corona vaccine. That accounts for 16.1 percent of the total population. 620,032 of them have already received a second dose. 5.4 percent of the Belgian population was therefore fully vaccinated.
