A 26-year-old mare died on the night of Tuesday to Wednesday in Hoeselt (Limburg) because of fireworks, according to the owner of the animal, who announced the news on Facebook.
The mare collapsed following a heart attack during a fireworks display. The province of Limburg experienced a calm transition to the new year.
The night was rather busy in the emergency department of the Oost-Limburg hospital in Genk but no more than in other years. About 5,000 revelers attended the fireworks display in Hasselt.
