A young man killed his own father and younger sister at their home in Jordanville, sheriffs in New York State said.
The 22-year-old Bulgarian with a US passport Michael Andreev Jr. was arrested for the alleged murder of his namesake and father Michael J. Andreev – 67 years old and 12-year-old Sofia Trusova, who is Michael’s sister, writes Law & Crime.
Authorities said they had detained the suspect after he was discharged from Syracuse University Hospital.
Sheriffs said they responded to a signal from 1402 State Route 167 in the town of Warren on Sunday about the stabbing.
Andreev Sr. and Trusova were found dead at the scene. Authorities found Andreev Jr. in the front yard with a torn neck. He was transported by air to the hospital, where he underwent surgery and is in stable condition. All three lived in the home, police said.
Michael J. Andreev Jr. was arrested after being discharged from Upstate University Hospital. He was subsequently taken to Herkimer City Court and returned to Herkimer County Jail without bail.
Andreev Jr. was arrested on two counts of second-degree murder and one count of criminal possession of a fourth-degree weapon. Investigators did not disclose information about the alleged motive or events that led to the stabbing. New York State Police spokesman Jack L. Keller told Law & Crime that no more information was available.
It is not clear whether Andreev has a lawyer.
The other two Andreev brothers have taken emergency leave to return home and care for their surviving 9-year-old brother, according to a GoFundMe campaign raising funds for the family.
While one of the brothers studied at the American University in Bulgaria, the other studied at the US Air Force in the United States. The GoFundMe campaign raised $ 5,500 of the required $ 75,000 on Wednesday. It is intended to cover the costs of funerals, travel and to support the care of the younger child.
