Vazhakulam St. George Volleyball Club players are the ones who blew away Delhi, who were undefeated in volleyball six decades ago, with powerful smashes and serves. Vazhakulam St. George Club is one of the strongest among the earliest volleyball clubs in Kerala. The old volleyball lovers still cherish the exciting performances of the banana pool. An indoor stadium has been constructed and started functioning with the help of the Zilla Panchayat.

St. George Volleyball Club organizes training camps and volleyball tournaments for students during vacations.

Started in 1942, the club has organized volleyball matches with various teams of the country in the banana pool. One of them was the Delhi-Vazhakulam match. The team has won many tournaments. The volleyball training camp organized in 1957 at Vazhakulam was led by the famous Indian coach Gurudev Singh. Those who attended the club’s training camps later became great volleyball players and coaches.

As many as eight coaches who have received training from the National Institute of Sports (NIS) are members of the St. George Volleyball Club.
