Honor is due to switch to MediaTek SoCs due to US sanctions

The US sanctions against Huawei were only tightened again a few days ago, so that other companies like For example, TSMC may no longer deliver chips to the manufacturer. As a result, Huawei can no longer have its own Kirin processors produced and instead has to switch to alternatives.

However, it is not only Huawei that is struggling with the difficulties, but also the subsidiary Honor. Honor is also no longer able to supply the Kirin SoCs due to the sanctions and should therefore already be negotiating with MediaTek for the delivery of chips. At least with the 5G chips one is in talks with MediaTek in order to be able to continue to equip the devices with the latest radio technology.

However, switching to MediaTek’s chips will not be easy. For this, Honor would also have to make adjustments to the devices, since the installed ones are only compatible with the Kirin processors. In terms of hardware, too, you will probably have to make adjustments to be able to install the MediaTek chips.

How long it will take until the adjustment has been made and the first Honor device to be equipped with MediaTek chips is currently still completely open.
