Broadcaster ye Esther Reveals Battle with Severe Depression, Finds ⁤Even Simple Interactions Challenging

Seoul, South korea – Popular medical⁤ professional and broadcaster Ye Esther, known as the wife ⁢of businessman Hong Hye-gul, ⁢has publicly disclosed⁢ her struggle with severe depression, including symptoms⁢ of anhedonia ‌- the inability to ⁢experience pleasure. The revelation, ‍made ⁤on the couple’s YouTube channel ‘Ye Esther’s Esther TV’ on November 5th, offers a⁤ candid‌ look into the debilitating effects of the condition.

Ye Esther’s experience highlights the often-invisible burden of depression, especially‌ for those in the public eye who are expected to maintain‌ a cheerful persona. According to Hong Hye-gul, his wife is experiencing a particularly challenging form of depression where even enjoyable activities offer no satisfaction. “It’s not fun to do‍ anything. It’s not fun and delicious to eat, it’s not ⁢fun, it’s not fun, and it’s ‍not fun to shop,” ⁤he shared.

The broadcaster described receiving thoughtful gestures from her eldest son, including prepared meals and side dishes tailored to⁢ her preferences, yet still feeling unable to derive joy from them. ⁤She has reportedly pursued extensive ⁣treatment options, including Spravato, a medication approved by the U.S. ⁣food and Drug Governance (FDA), and “tried almost all the drugs” available.

Hong Hye-gul noted a ⁣positive shift, stating, “In the old days, I kept thinking about it, but I thank ⁣you for reducing the bad urge as it used ‍to be.” However, ‍the ⁢impact of the illness extends beyond a lack ⁣of enjoyment, creating important emotional strain.

In a Facebook post ⁣on November 7th, Hong hye-gul ⁣shared⁤ the emotional toll the condition takes, noting, “There are people who are sad because they do not contact thier homes.” He explained that even responding to a simple message can feel like an overwhelming obligation. The demands of her public-facing‌ roles, including appearances on YouTube and home shopping channels, often leave her confined to her room for extended periods.

“Sometimes on YouTube or home shopping,as a⁤ CEO for the company and employees, and once broadcast, you will be‍ lying in‌ a pajamas in⁣ your room for a week,” Hong Hye-gul revealed. She has expressed feeling disconnected from the simple pleasures others experience,⁣ stating, “I complain that there is no⁤ pleasure in anything that ordinary people feel,” and even canceled plans to‍ spend time ⁢with ‌her son and daughter-in-law to avoid feeling ‌trapped.
