Rafał Kot admitted that Polish fans have reasons to be disappointed. The activist answered the question of what, in his opinion, made Dawid Kubacki and Piotr Żyła weaker. The diagnosis was clear.

Dawid Kubacki took distant 16th place after the first round of the individual competition in Oslo. Although the second jump of the Nowy Targ citizen was much better, it was not enough to eliminate the losses. Eventually, the runner-up of the World Cup took the 9th position.

What went wrong?

However, Piotr Żyła’s second attempt was unsuccessful in every respect. The Cieszyn citizen made a mistake just after leaving the threshold and landed before the 107th subway. What, according to Rafał Kot, made the best fit Polish jumpers this season perform below expectations?

I was hoping for a better performance from David. To be honest, after his first attempt, I was unpleasantly surprised. Unfortunately, he made a mistake just after leaving the threshold, and in my opinion the inrun silhouette was not perfect either. In such a situation, you have to correct the position in flight, which could have contributed to the first mistake. David was also tense. It still technically looked very good, but it lacked slack. And finally it ended with 120.5 meters – noted Rafał Kot.

– In the case of Piotrek, I believe that it is not a matter of well-being. He, after winning the world championship in Planica, simply got out of adjustment. Earlier, before and during the competition in which he won gold, he was full of emotions. If you touched it, it is possible that you could get an electric shock (laughs). Now, after a great success, Piotrek got a little lost and has to get back on track, and it’s not that easy – he added.

Living in the capital of Norway is already in a lost position?

Can we count on an improvement in the form of Polish ski jumpers in the upcoming competitions? In the case of Kubacki, it is possible. However, the Vice-President of the Tatra Association does not want to prejudge.

– It will be very difficult for Piotr to return to his optimal form, especially in Oslo. It’s hardly a bug-correcting hill, so I honestly don’t expect much. First you have to start with returning to the right attitude, such as he had in Planica, said the activist.

It’s different with David. He can afford great jumps, but the trials can be uneven. You have to give him one thing. He is a master at drawing conclusions. No matter how bad the first attempt goes, in the second he corrects the mistakes and flies far, as we have been able to observe. All it takes is a short conversation with trainer Thomas Thurnbichler. David is also mentally strong, which is what makes him stand out. Where did these weaker attempts come from? I don’t know. Maybe there’s a pressure somewhere that makes him jump at 105% and not 100% and that’s a small obstacle. It’s a prestigious tournament, he definitely wants to chase Halvor Egner Granerud. Added to this is season fatigue. People are not robots. Let’s hope that on Sunday he will make two even, good jumps – summed up Rafał Kot.
