Hondurans protest to demand the renewal of the Maccih

A group of Hondurans, among businessmen, politicians, workers, students and academics, demonstrated on Sunday against the departure of the Support Mission Against Corruption and Impunity in Honduras (Maccih).

The mobilization started from the Guadalupe neighborhood, traveling along the Morazán boulevard until reaching the Maccih facilities, where police officers had deployed.

The mobilization was convened “in unity for the continuity of the Maccih“by various sectors of society, among representatives of the Coalition for the Defense of the Maccih, the Platform for the Defense of Health and Education, the External Debt Social Forum of Honduras, businessmen and political parties, will demonstrate during a protest in Tegucigalpa.

“The root of all the problems of Honduras are corruption and impunity. Corruption does not give health, education, security, or opportunities to the Honduran people,” Pedro Barquero, president of businessmen in the northern part of the country, told APF. country.

Suyapa Figueroa, president of the Medical College of Honduras (CMH), said that this Sunday’s march is just the beginning of many that will occur in the coming days.

The functions of the Maccih, which was installed in April 2016 in the Honduran capital, ends this Sunday, four years after the Honduran president, Juan Orlando Hernández, signed the agreement for the creation of the Mission with the OAS Secretary General, Luis Almagro.
