Honduran extradition ordered for drug trafficking

For being allegedly linked to drug trafficking, the Honduran José Rafael Sosa Méndez will be extradited to United States in accordance with what was determined yesterday by the Supreme Court of Justice (CSJ).

Melvin Duartespokesman for Power of attorney, stated that the extradition de Sosa was granted by a natural judge appointed to hear the case.

Sosa’s extradition will be deferred, which means that he must first serve a local sentence for arms trafficking before being handed over to the justice of United States.

The spokesperson added that the extradition judge approved the request of the northern country to be tried in the court of the Southern District of Florida for the events that occurred after February 27, 2012, which is when the reform of article 102 of the Constitution that allows the extradition of Honduran citizens to United States.

Antecedent

José Rafael Sosa Méndez was sentenced on August 30, 2019 for arms trafficking and is currently being held in the Francisco Morazán National Penitentiary, in Támara

“Sosa is confined in the National Penitentiary by Francisco Morazán, Tamara. The delivery of the citizen is deferred until the sentence dictated in the ruling of August 30, 2019 by the Sentence Court for arms trafficking“Duarte explained.

Sosa was requested by the Southern District Court of Florida where he is accused of conspiracy to distribute drugs in United States.

The defendant’s defense has three days to appeal the extradition decision to the court appointed for that purpose.

Sosa is also pointed out by the National Police as ringleader of the criminal organization the Rafa’s band and of being the alleged intellectual author of the murder of the soccer player and former national Arnold peralta in Ceiba. Peralta was killed in the parking lot of a shopping center in Ceiba on December 10, 2015.

The Honduran extraditable was detained along with other people on March 5, 2017.
