Homer Simpson and a pizza-eating heron: seven strange works of art emerge in Tilburg

Homer Simpson on a roof in Tilburg, it is just a surprise when you see the statue of the main character from the well-known animated series The Simpsons. It was set there by the Cape Town art festival and by artist Frankey, who is also behind André Hazes’ life-size Lego version.

As part of the Cape Town art festival, Frankey made seven street art works that were placed in crazy places in the center of Tilburg. For example, Homer stands on top of a dance school on the Nieuwlandstraat and on the roof of the Domino’s Pizza on the Paleisring you will find a heron eating a pizza.

In another place in the center, a horse from a merry-go-round has been put on a lamppost and a seesaw in the fountain on Willemsplein.

During the festival, a large group of artists normally ‘hijacks’ Tilburg city center for three days. This year Cape Town has been canceled due to the corona virus. The festival organization wants to surprise a bit with Frankey’s works. According to Cape Town, the works will remain there all summer, ‘until they are no longer on display’.

Hazes
Artist Frankey was in the news last month because his life-size statue of André Hazes was beheaded on Dam Square in Amsterdam. The statue was made by Dutch Deco finish from Erp, which also repairs it.
