Homeopathy for hay fever

About a quarter of the population in Central Europe suffers from an allergy. The first descriptions of hay fever already existed in the 18th century. And London doctor and homeopath Charles H. Blackley, who suffered from hay fever, observed that inhaling pollen triggers an allergic reaction.

He also found that the rural population had fewer allergies and concluded that constant exposure makes them insensitive. Blackley himself carried out experiments with diluted pollen and thus found a kind of hyposensitization even then.

The most common is pollen allergy, known as hay fever. Between spring and late summer, pollen from trees, shrubs and grass can cause allergic reactions.

Classic symptoms include red, itchy and burning eyes, itchy nose, sneezing, runny nose, nasal congestion and fatigue. Pollen allergy sufferers can also develop allergic asthma.

Conventional hay fever therapy

Conventionally means to avoid allergy-causing pollen, to treat the allergy with antihistamines or cortisone and to cause hypo- / desensitization. This is understood to mean the weakening until the allergic reaction is removed.

It is carried out by long-term administration of small doses of the specific antigen in the form of a syringe cure, with drops or tablets in increasing doses, with the aim of achieving hypersensitivity or insensitivity to the antigen, explains general practitioner and homeopath Bernhard Zauner.

In addition to the “conventional medical” treatment, which leads to side effects in quite a few patients, complementary medicine can be helpful. In one study, 40 allergy patients were recorded in nine Austrian test centers before and after homeopathic treatment of the allergy-related complaints. The aim was to alleviate the allergy-specific symptoms and to reduce conventional antiallergics by administering individually prescribed homeopathic medicines.

Approximately half of the patients were taking conventional medication. Some underwent hyposensitization therapy, others used non-homeopathic complementary medicine treatments. 62 percent of 21 patients were able to discontinue at least one medication, while the others were able to at least reduce the dosage of their conventional medication.

An Italian study with 325 children under the age of 14 shows that the relevant symptoms of the disease improved in 90 percent of the cases. 84.2 percent of children with hay fever benefited most, followed by neurodermatitis (80.3%) and asthmatics (67.2%). According to Zauner, several studies with a total of 1,038 hay fever patients showed that the effect of the homeopathic medicine Galphimia glauca (Little Laburnum) is equivalent to that of conventional medication.
