Home Secretary Supports Plan to Restart Bundesliga | NOW

It seems increasingly likely that the German government will authorize next week to resume the Bundesliga season this month. Horst Seehofer, the German minister of the interior, supports the plan to finish the competition on Sunday.

“I think the DFL (Bundesliga organizer, ed.) Has made a credible plan and I support a restart in May,” Seehofer said in an interview with Bild. “Although it is also clear that the Bundesliga will not get extra privileges.”

Two weeks ago, the DFL drew up a draft plan that the top-level clubs in Germany must adhere to if the Bundesliga is to resume.

The most important measure is that the matches are played behind closed doors and that a maximum of 126 people are welcome in the stadium. Furthermore, the players and trainers of all Bundesliga clubs are regularly tested for the COVID-19 virus.

The DFL has no plans to quarantine entire teams if there is a positive test, as this week showed when there were three positive cases at 1. FC Köln.

Several federal states have already given the green light to play football again in May. The German government will make a final decision next week on the resumption of sporting events and Seehofer is clear about his opinion: “I am in favor of trying to play again.”
