‘Home Alone’ director lashes out hard at the reboot

The Christmas classic Home Alone exists thirty years. Disney thought it was a good time to get started with a reboot, but the director of the original film does not agree.

Chris Columbus, mainly known from the Home Alone films, but of course also from the first two Harry Pottermovies, finds the new film in the series nonsensical: ”Nobody contacted me. I didn’t know about the movie. I am therefore not involved in any way. But I also think it’s a waste of time. I am convinced that you will not reboot movies that last the life of Home Alone”.

Ryan Reynolds
The film will be made by 20th Century Studios and Ryan Reynolds, who will turn it into an R-rated movie, called Stoned Alone. Despite the fact that the story will be different from that of Columbus, he is by no means a fan of the concept.

I think all those reboots are nonsense. When I read that the movie was going to be called ‘Stoned Alone’, an R-rated movie about junkies, and that Ryan was involved, I thought to myself, “This is an insult to the art of cinema.” Whether you’re making a comedy, a musical, or something else, it doesn’t matter, you treat the concept with respect, as if you’re making a new Godfather movie. I know Home Alone is definitely not The Godfather, but show some respect”.

The story has already been told, why don’t they come up with something original? You no longer create lightning in a bottle. It’s just not going to happen”.
