Holy Week in Gijón: Witness the Via Crucis of the Cristo de la Misericordia y de los Mártires

The Cristo de la Misericordia y de los Mártires will once again tour the streets of the city from the church of San Pedro starting at 8:00 p.m. and under the shoulders of the members of the Brotherhood of Holy Mercy. The image, the work of Francisco González Macías (1943) will be accompanied by the escort of the “squad of spenders of the Prince Regiment number 3”, which last year participated again in Holy Week in Gijón.

Today’s Via Crucis Holy Thursday will celebrate each of the stops during a tour of Campo Valdés, Paseo del Muro, Ventura Álvarez Sala, Melquíades Álvarez, Trinidad, Plaza del Marqués, Jardines de la Reina, Corrida, San Antonio streets , Institute, Martínez Marina, San Bernardo, Ventura Álvarez Sala, Paseo del Muro and Campo Valdés. In case of rain, although it is not foreseen, there is an alternative to celebrate the Via Crucis, either shorten the route or perform the Via Crucis inside the church of San Pedro.

The appointments of Holy Week in Gijón

Holy Thursday. Via Crucis of the Christ of Mercy, at 8:00 p.m. from San Pedro.

Holy Friday. Procession of the Holy Burial from San Pedro at 8:00 p.m. with the images of the Holy Sepulchre, the Pieta at the foot of the Cross and the Sorrowful Virgin.

Holy Saturday. La Soledad de María, from San Pedro to the chapel of La Soledad at 9:00 am. The steps of San Juan Evangelista and Nuestra Señora de la Soledad will come out.

Easter Sunday. At 12 noon, departure from the Chapel of Soledad of the image of the Virgen de la Alegría, and, from the Basilica of the Sacred Heart, the passage of the Resurrection. At 11:45 a.m., from San Pedro, the San Pedro Apóstol pass will leave.
