HMHI: Hemophilia Treatment Is Not Cheap

Djaja said that his party was struggling prophylaxis for the treatment of hemophilia as it has been widely applied in foreign countries. Prophylaxis is usually given to children and is preventive.

“In order for children to have a good quality of life, there are ways that we follow from abroad, namely providing prophylaxis,” he said.

“Do not let him experience heavy bleeding, especially joints, because joints are parts of the body that we always use, this is what is worrying,” said Djaja.

According to him, prophylaxis is given about two to three times a week. The dose given is also low. He added, if prophylaxis could be applied, the quality of life for people with hemophilia would be better.

Meanwhile, Novie explained that prophylaxis is for hemophilia may not be applicable to all patients because they are still constrained by cost and the dosage is adjusted for body weight.

“Because this is prevention, we actually give the dose is not too high, but if the child has a large weight or the patient is an adult, then the need is also a lot even though the dose is not high,” explained Novie.
