HIV/AIDS in Riau Worrying

PEKANBARU (RIAUPOS.CO) – Cases of Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV)/Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome (AIDS) in Riau, is now also a serious problem. Therefore, this issue needs to be addressed and considered jointly by all parties.

Deputy Governor of Riau (Wagubri) Edy Natar Nasution said, apart from the drug problem, the prevention of HIV/AIDS must also be the concern of all parties. Where last year, more than 7,000 people were found with HIV/AIDS.

“From the data collected by the Riau Provincial Health Office until September 2021, 7,238 people with HIV/AIDS (PLWHA) have been found in Riau Province, of which 3,413 people were found to be in the AIDS stage,” he said.

The Deputy Governor also explained, from these data, cases of HIV/AIDS do not only occur in the case of the general public, but also involve ASN and even the TNI.

For this reason, according to him, the case of HIV/AIDS must be followed up seriously. Therefore, these cases need to be a shared priority to prevent cases of HIV/AIDS and must be integrated into development programs.

“So if we look at it, LGBT cases also need to be of high concern at this time. And it is also necessary to find a formulation in dealing with these problems,” he said.

The Deputy Governor added, if later there was drug socialization to schools or colleges, according to him, socialization related to understanding HIV/AIDS prevention and even LGBT issues should also be included.

Because according to him, the impact of these problems on people’s lives is equally dangerous for health and for the environment.

“If in the near future there will be drug socialization in schools and colleges, maybe this is also a part that needs to be included in HIV/AIDS and LGBT. Because the impact is also extraordinary,” he said. (ade)
