Juarez City- More than 200 workers from the De la Mujer, General, Civil Libertad and Infantil hospitals were sent to their homes as they were considered a vulnerable population to Covid-19.

According to inquiries 070812020 and 070802020 made to the National Institute of Transparency, there are 239 employees, mostly medical and nursing personnel. 80% (191) have already been covered and the other 20% (48) have not yet.

At 65, “José Luis”, a specialist doctor from the Women’s Hospital, who has a leave of absence due to suffering from hypertension and overweight, copes with depression and anxiety about not going to work, supporting the community through digital consultations and their health colleagues following the quarantine.

“Fortunately my comorbidities are well controlled, I have been well, the only thing I have had is anxiety and sometimes depression… knowing that my fellow doctors who are fighting have gotten sick, some have died. It has affected me in my state of mind but they are temporary processes (…) I had a private office, but I also closed it, ”said the doctor, who has 35 years of experience.

He, according to the requisitions, is one of 26 doctors from the Women’s Hospital sent to his homes to safeguard his integrity against the virus, which increases its lethality in people with chronic diseases and the elderly.

Along with these doctors, 73 nurses from the building were also sent home.

To cover them, 4 physicians and 24 general nurses were hired, and there was support from another 9 physicians and 31 incident-covering nurses. 50% of doctors and 75% of missing nurses were compensated.

They indicated that 18 specialist doctors and 34 nurses were sent home at the Children’s Hospital, and 4 doctors and 14 incident-coping nurses were hired.

Arturo Valenzuela Zorrilla, medical director in the Northern Zone, said that it has been very difficult for the Health Sector to protect personnel from the pandemic. At the last cutoff, it was reported that 317 doctors have fallen ill and 6 have died; 624 nurses have been infected and 6 have died, and 238 workers from other areas have fallen ill and 8 have died, that is, 1,179 infections with 20 deaths in the entity.

“We know that 1 out of 8 people who become infected with Covid19 have to do with Health personnel, so, for that reason, it was agreed to send home susceptible personnel, diabetics, hypertensive, those with comorbidities that could make them prone of a more serious illness. This brought problems to be solved, which were solved when extra personnel were hired to carry out the tasks that these nurses, these doctors, did, that situation was solved ”, he said.

He stated that the situation, derived from the Covid-19 pandemic – a virus that adds 4 thousand 807 infections in Juárez that have led to 695 deaths and 2 thousand 163 recoveries – caused an effort to protect vulnerable health workers, who will return to their tasks once the risk traffic light goes down.

He stressed that the more the population is cared for and the disease indicators are reduced on this border and the rest of the state, the activities that were suspended can begin.

“The hospitals had to be converted and some operations or illnesses that do not merit urgency were postponed; Some surgeries, which can be scheduled, were left pending, some other type of medical attention, which may take longer, was postponed, but it is intended to recover that time as the traffic light goes down, “said the surgeon, who highlighted that in The entity has 8 thousand 820 cases, with 977 killed and 3 thousand 458 healed.
