Greece worked entirely on renewable energies for 5 hours on Friday 7 October last, for the first time ever, using solar power Wind and hydroelectricity.
According to Sky News, it hit a record 3,106 megawatt hours of electricity at 9:00 am local time.
The power transmission operator said: "For the first time in the history of the Greek electricity system, demand was 100% covered by renewable energy sources".
Greece aims to more than double its green energy capacity as it hopes renewables will account for at least 70% of its energy mix by 2030.
According to electricity data from "Embers"Greece, an independent research center, last year produced 39.4% of its electricity from renewable sources, of which 19.8% from wind, 9.9% from hydro and 8, 9% from solar.
It produced 61% of its electricity from fossil fuels in 2021.
