The NYPD announced Wednesday night the arrest of 40-year-old Steven Castro, charged with the beating of his mother, whose corpse was found in his Bronx apartment early Monday morning.
The body of Carmen Aponte, 66, was discovered by her daughter around 1:30 a.m. Wednesday when she arrived at the family’s apartment, located at 1220 Seneca Avenue, near Faile Street, in the Hunts Point neighborhood.
Officers reported that the woman lay unconscious in her bed with head injuries. His death was declared at the scene.
The investigation revealed that Castro struck his mother with a blunt object during a “fit of rage.” The NYPD did not immediately say what object the suspect used or the reason for the man’s anger.
Castro faces charges of involuntary manslaughter and criminal possession of a weapon.
