During the presentation of the PlayStation 5, Sony made it clear that exclusive games will continue to be the cornerstone of the new console. Titles like Spider-Man: Miles Morales, Gran Turismo 7, Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart and Horizon Forbidden West will be the first proposals from PlayStation Studios that will open the curtain on the platform. However, the company’s strategy with exclusives would be even more ambitious than was believed at first.
According to Imran Khan, former editor of Game Informer and now a contributor to the popular YouTube channel Kinda Funny, noted that Sony’s plan is to secure temporary exclusive multiplatform gaming. That is, some games that will also reach Xbox Series X would remain exclusive to PlayStation 5 for a certain period of time. The most interesting thing, however, is that it would not be just any games, but very important productions for the industry.
“There are things that will surprise you to find out that Sony is spending a lot of money, that they are closing temporary exclusives. ‘Wow, is that the game you’re picking up?’ Not because it’s bad, but because it’s huge. I’m interested to see where this conversation is going to be in a couple of months, because there are games that are widely accepted as cross-platform that Sony is holding onto for a while, “said Khan (via GamesRadar). However, at the moment it did not reveal which titles are part of that strategy.
The road started in June
The conversation arose, in fact, from the controversy that surrounds Marvel’s Avengers “Let’s remember that Spider-Man will only be available on Sony consoles.” It seems, then, that the company will continue to open the portfolio to bet on content exclusivity. If we look back at the presentation event of the PlayStation 5, we can find that two multiplatform games will be temporary exclusives of the aforementioned console: Ghostwire: Tokyo (de Shinji Mikami) y Deathloop (Arkane/Bethesda).
