Hillary Clinton, the loser in the 2016 US presidential election, claims to be a member of the electoral college that will elect this year’s winner. Clinton told the radio station SiriusXM yesterday that she is running as an election woman for New York State.
In the USA the president is not elected directly by the citizens, but by the members of the “Electoral College”. New York State provides 29 of the total of 538 voters. A US presidential candidate needs at least 270 votes to enter the White House.
“Can’t imagine that he will be re-elected”
On the program “Signal Boost” Clinton was confident that she could vote for Democratic presidential candidate Joe Biden and his runner-up Kamala Harris. They don’t think incumbent Donald Trump will win the November 3rd election.
“I can’t see him getting re-elected after the damage he’s done, and I can’t imagine another four years of this abuse and destruction.”
The “Electoral College” is a controversial institution. Through the electoral college, a candidate does not need to get a majority of the nationwide votes. It is possible for a president to be elected by a majority in the Electoral College without having received most of the votes.
This has happened five times in US history, most recently four years ago: At that time, Clinton received around three million more votes nationwide than Trump. The Republican got a majority of 304 votes in the electoral college.
