hijack advertising panels or how to campaign while respecting barrier gestures

You come across them every day in the street without necessarily paying attention: posters and other advertising campaigns ! In these times of pandemic where demonstrations are complicated to organize, they make it possible to challenge passers-by. For example, with this campaign launched by EDF employees: they mobilize against the Hercules project, which aims to split the energy giant into three, a project they describe as “dismantling a public service”.

To challenge public opinion for lack of manifestation, they adapt to the health context and innovate. They are launching a poster campaign, it is really an initiative of the employees and an unprecedented form of mobilization. David Claves, CGT union delegate at Enedis, an EDF subsidiary, explains that this campaign was financed by the EDF CSE, that is to say the employee representative body: “The CSE has budgets that can be used for different things, but part of this budget has been allocated to this campaign and then, in addition, the health crisis has forced us to evolve to communicate.”

In this campaign, a shock poster: a young boy with blue eyes who calls out to passers-by, all accompanied by slogans calling for the defense of energy as a public service … It’s quite effective!

Hidden advertisements

Another means of mobilization: we stay in the visual. When commercial advertisements, to sell lipstick or a car, are obscured. There are associations campaigning for their withdrawal because they lead to overconsumption and pollute. This is the case of the association “Les Amis de la terre Côte-d’Or”. Its president Stéphane Dupas wrote to the mayor of Dijon on this subject.

In the absence of an answer, the association proposes to redevelop street furniture by itself, that is to say to hide these ads but be careful, there are certain rules to follow: “As soon as you open a billboard, that is to say you use a special key to open the billboard and remove the ad from it, you enter the public space and it’s illegal. We don’t tag no, we do not go in, however, we can use adhesive tape, that’s legal! ”

Rename a tram station

A collective has even gone so far as to rename a tram station in Dijon. They are environmental activists, called “Friends of the gardens of the gear”, who invested this wasteland on June 17 to prevent a real estate project on avenue de Langres.

To react, they renamed the “Nation” tram station to “Engrenage” station. A fun method that hit the mark, says Claire, member of the “Friends of the gardens of the gear”: “The choice was made to go through a mode of communication that makes it possible to reach people without having a direct exchange, the station is frequented by workers and high school students and for us, it was a means of reaching many world.”

Despite public sympathy, do the buzz and communicating in this way does not protect against legal proceedings: “Friends of the gardens of the gear” are always threatened with eviction. The next deadline in this matter is March 19. The Dijon court, seized by the town hall, will render its decision.
