In the past 24 hours, 17 new infections of the coronavirus have been detected in Limburg. That is the highest number in ten days. There are now officially 10 million people worldwide affected by Covid-19.

Health institute Sciensano announced last week that no new update would follow on Sunday. But this afternoon a new report was released. This shows that 86 new infections were added to our country in the past 24 hours. 17 of these were found in Limburg. It was already from June 18 (19 new infections) since the number of additional corona cases was still so high. A total of 6,583 people were now affected by the virus in our province.
Regarding the analysis at municipal level, Sciensano considers the period between June 18 and 25. In that week, 12 new infections appeared in Genk, 11 in Houthalen-Helchteren and Maaseik and 4 in Oudsbergen. 19 municipalities in Limburg were “corona-free” that week, which means that no new infections were detected.

After the average number of new infections per day on a weekly basis rose again to 92 for the first time in a long time, a slight but somewhat reassuring decline was again observed on Sunday. In the past week, the government had an average of 87.7 infections per day. No new figures were released on Sunday on the number of hospital admissions and the number of deaths. After all, hospitals no longer have to provide an update to the health institute on weekends. So new information will only be available on Tuesday.
The sad peak of 10 million infections was rounded worldwide on Sunday. A quarter of them come from the United States. Brazil (1.3 million infections) and Russia (633,000 infections) complete the top 3. In total, there were already 499,307 deaths worldwide due to the corona virus.
