The number of new deaths in the coronavirus crisis in New York state reached another high from Monday to yesterday. During that time, 731 infected people died, Governor Andrew Cuomo said at his daily press conference. Overall, the number of deaths in the particularly hard hit state was around 5,500.
The New York police are also badly affected by the pandemic. At least twelve employees have already died in connection with suspected coronavirus infections, the news channel CNN reported today. More than 2,000 other employees are infected with the SARS-CoV-2 pathogen. Almost 7,000 police officers called in sick for a variety of reasons and are currently unable to appear on duty, around 20 percent of the uniformed forces of the NYPD.
More than 100,000 confirmed cases in Germany
At least 101,700 infections with the corona virus have been registered in Germany. This emerges from an evaluation by the dpa, which takes into account the latest figures from the federal states. According to the information, at least 1,747 infected people have died nationwide so far.

Another hundred dead in Sweden
In Sweden, the number of coronavirus deaths has increased by more than a hundred within a day. According to the Swedish health authority, 591 people have now died from the corona virus in the Scandinavian country. The 114 new deaths were not all registered in the past 24 hours, some were reported with a delay.

Over 160 other dead in Belgium
162 people infected with the corona virus died in Belgium on Monday. That said the Belgian spokesman for coronavirus matters, Emmanuel Andre, yesterday in the briefing of the health authority and the crisis center. Previously, declining deaths for four consecutive days had sprouted hope that Spain was past the worst. In total, over 13,700 people have died in Spain as a result of an infection.
For the first time, no new deaths in China
For the first time since the outbreak of the pandemic, China did not report any new fatalities. According to the official information, there have been hardly any new infections every day and only a few new deaths in the People’s Republic for weeks. Yesterday, for the first time since January, statistics from the Beijing Health Commission did not include any new deaths at all.
According to the information, there were again 32 “imported” infections that were detected in people entering China. According to official figures, a total of 3,331 people died in China and 81,740 were registered as infected.
The actual numbers are likely to be significantly higher, however, as the type of survey has been changed again and again and many cases do not appear in the official statistics.
