The United States has recorded the highest number of corona deaths per day for six months in the past 24 hours, on the eve of Thanksgiving. According to data from Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore, more than 2,400 people died from COVID-19 in the last 24 hours.
The US has suffered a total of 262,090 deaths so far as a result of the corona epidemic. At least 12.7 million people have already been infected with the lung virus. No other country has been hit so hard by the pandemic.
Earlier this month, the numbers of new infections per day in the US reached new record highs, as did the numbers of corona-related hospital admissions.
On the eve of the American holiday of Thanksgiving, fewer Americans now seemed to be on their way to family. In recent days, concerns in the US have increased due to images of busy airports.
In the past week, some million passengers a day traveled by plane, with the highest number last Sunday. Since the outbreak in March, it has not happened that so many people took a plane in one day within the US.

President-elect Joe Biden, in his Thanksgiving speech, urged the people that Americans comply with the measures. “There is real hope, tangible hope. So hold on. Top American immunologist Anthony Fauci had already called on Americans to skip Thanksgiving this year in mid-October. “Unfortunately, it is a risk if you come in with visitors from elsewhere,” said the director of the National Institute for Allergies and Infectious Diseases. “It’s unfortunate because the Thanksgiving family gathering is an important part of the American tradition.”
