JAKARTA High cholesterol can be seen from the hands, skin and eyes. One’s external body can hold many clues about health and the risks include warning signs of high cholesterol.

When there is an accumulation of plaque (fatty deposits) it clogs the arteries, which is called atherosclerosis. This deposit consists of cholesterol , fatty substances, cellular waste products, calcium and fibrin.

Cholesterol that accumulates in the body can clog the blood vessels in the hands. This buildup of cholesterol can occur continuously and make hands feel sore.

If you see yellowish-orange growths on your skin, you have cholesterol deposits under your skin. These painless deposits can appear in many areas, including the corners of the eyes, the lines on the palms of the hands, or the backs of the lower legs.

Arcus senilis is generally harmless, although it can sometimes be a sign of high cholesterol in people under the age of 45.
