Rezaei Urges Hezbollah to Re-evaluate ‘strategic Patience’ Amidst Israeli Actions
Tehran – In a notable statement reflecting growing concerns over the evolving situation in the Middle East, former commander-in-chief of the Islamic Revolution Guard Corps (IRGC) Mohsen Rezaei has publicly urged Lebanon’s hezbollah to carefully reconsider it’s current approach of ”strategic patience.” Rezaei warns that Israel is actively exploiting periods of ceasefire, ongoing negotiations, and the restraint demonstrated by resistance forces to its advantage.
While emphasizing that Iran does not directly command the various resistance groups operating in the region – acknowledging their independent decision-making – Rezaei stressed the necessity of reassessing the prolonged period of patience currently being exercised. He believes a continued, indefinite stance of restraint could inadvertently allow Israel to consolidate its position.
Referring to the recent twelve-day conflict, Rezaei highlighted the limitations of Israeli military action. Despite the full weight of US and Israeli military capabilities being brought to bear, operations were ultimately curtailed within twelve days, forcing a request for a ceasefire – a ceasefire Iran ultimately accepted. This, he argues, demonstrates a vulnerability that should be strategically leveraged.
Rezaei powerfully underscored the critical role of organized resistance in safeguarding Iran’s sovereignty. He warned that without such resistance, Iran risks repeating the ancient hardships of occupation and famine experienced during the World Wars. He views the current resistance movements as a vital bulwark against such threats.
The former IRGC commander condemned the targeted killings of resistance officials and commanders by Israel, labeling these actions as acts of terrorism. He asserted that such tactics, whether employed in Iran, Lebanon, or Iraq, will not succeed in breaking the will of these nations. “These attempts to intimidate through assassination will not force submission,” he stated.
Rezaei acknowledged that Hezbollah’s current strategic patience is effectively managing the battlefield dynamics, but he implored the group to define a clear and decisive endpoint to their strategy. He emphasized that this endpoint must be determined by the resistance forces themselves, reflecting their own objectives and red lines.
Looking beyond the immediate conflict, Rezaei believes the unprecedented level of resistance witnessed in both Gaza and Lebanon is fundamentally reshaping the global balance of power. He attributes this shift to the sacrifices of martyrs and the unwavering resilience and unity of regional forces. This, he argues, represents a historic turning point.
Rezaei’s comments come in the wake of recent Israeli attacks on Lebanon that resulted in the death of a senior Hezbollah commander, further escalating tensions and prompting this call for a strategic re-evaluation.
