Leading Oncologist Hosts Successful ASCO-ECS Liver Cancer Session in Egypt
Cairo, Egypt – Hesham ElGhazaly, President of the Executive Board at the Egyptian Cancer Society, Professor of Clinical Oncology at Ain Shams University, and Founder/CEO of Alfa Cure oncology Centre, recently hosted a highly successful joint session with the American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO) focused on hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC), or liver cancer, during the 12th Ain Shams University Clinical Oncology Department Conference (ASU-ICOC). The event, held November 21, 2025, signifies a growing commitment to advancing liver cancer education and treatment within Egypt through strengthened international collaboration.
The session drew over 600 attendees both in person and via livestream, addressing a critical need for updated knowledge on HCC management in a region where the disease presents significant challenges. Featuring insights from leading international experts, the event aimed to equip Egyptian oncologists with the latest systemic treatment options and foster dynamic discussion around complex patient cases. This collaboration between ASCO and ECS is poised to directly impact patient care by disseminating cutting-edge research and best practices.
The session began with an overview of the current HCC landscape in Egypt, followed by a lecture from Professor Ghassan Abou-Alfa detailing the newest systemic treatment approaches. A subsequent case discussion,led by Dr. Danny Yakoub, Dr. Christopher crane, and Prof. Abou-Alfa, provided a platform for interactive learning and the exchange of invaluable clinical perspectives.
