Karlsruhe (dpa / lsw) – In the debate about the future of regional airports, Transport Minister Winfried Hermann (Greens) has spoken out in favor of maintaining the Karlsruhe / Baden-Baden airport. “Together with the Baden-Airpark belonging to it, Baden-Airport has important regional economic significance, and it is one of the most successful of the regional airports.” The state’s airports were part of the internationally networked economy in Baden-Württemberg. A closure is not an issue for the ministry.
If it were up to environmentalists, one should close a number of regional airports nationwide. The second largest airport in the country, Baden Airport, was also targeted by critics.
“But flying must urgently become climate-friendly through the use of renewable fuels,” said Hermann. The state government is therefore pursuing the goal of reducing short-haul flights through attractive offers in rail traffic and making them as superfluous as possible.
