Here’s who else gave up Russian gas

The Finnish government is preparing to cut off natural gas supplies from Russia in May. This was reported by Helsingin Sanomat, BGNES reports.

The Finnish leadership has already stated unequivocally that it will not pay for the deliveries in rubles. Gazprom has asked the Finnish state gas company Gasum to decide whether or not to pay in rubles by May 20th.

According to the publication, many other European countries have been given the same deadline to make a decision.

It is possible that on May 21 the supply of Russian gas to Finland and most of Europe will be suspended. According to official estimates, Finland’s existing gas infrastructure, ie the Estonian gas pipeline and liquefied natural gas terminals, will not be enough to replace Russian gas.

Gas plays a much smaller role in Finland’s energy mix than in Central and Southern Europe. Last year, gas accounted for only about 5% of total energy consumption.

Problems are expected for the industry, where gas is used not as an energy source but as a raw material for technological processes. Two thirds of Finland’s gas is used by industry. The biggest consumers are companies from the chemical and wood processing industries.
