National Lottery turnover has dropped 30% since the start of the coronavirus crisis. A drop entirely due to the coronavirus epidemic, spokeswoman Joke Vermoere said. As for the National Lottery, we are well aware that the Belgians go out less, and therefore play less, and we therefore decided to take measures to manage this delicate period as well as possible.
First, the validity of the winning tickets has been extended by ten weeks. Anyone who wins can show up not twenty, but thirty weeks after buying the ticket.
Another change: people who win more than 100,000 no longer have to go to the headquarters of the National Lottery in Brussels. The Lottery can arrange to send someone to collect the winning ticket.
In addition, as Het Nieuwsblad explains, players will be able to buy tickets for the next ten draws to avoid having to go out too regularly.
The National Lottery also wants to help bookstores, which are going through a difficult period: “Normally, they only receive a commission if their weekly turnover exceeds 100 euros. We are dropping this floor price, ”we tell our colleagues. The invoicing of the winning tickets can also be postponed.
Finally, bookstores will receive new posters reminding them of the safety instructions and also 50 euros in order to equip themselves with gel, gloves or to install a plexiglass.
“We want to do everything to prevent players from being forced, in the midst of a health crisis, to go to a newspaper store to collect their winnings,” said the spokesperson for the National Lottery.
