5 washing tips that will help you combat period spots effectively
1. Washing tip for period stains: act while the stain is still damp
Like all other stains, blood stains can be treated better while they are still damp. So try to act immediately as soon as you spot the stain. It is best to hold the affected area in the sink under running, cold (!) Water until the water no longer shows any traces of blood. Sometimes that can be enough to remove the stains. Garments with stubborn stains need a little more attention. Put at least two teaspoons of salt on the fresh stains and let them sit for a few hours. After this treatment, the stains are usually as good as gone and are much easier to work on.

2. Washing tip for period stains: Use soap
If cold water and a salt bath are not enough pre-treatment, use soap as well. It doesn’t really matter which soap you use – it can be gall soap, but also normal hand soap – fresh stains can be guaranteed to be removed as far as possible.
3. Washing tip for period stains: Take tougher measures
With particularly stubborn stains that have already dried out, cold water, salt and soap can often no longer do anything. A home remedy that can be found in almost every kitchen can now help – white vinegar. Pour it on the affected area and then wash the affected garment in the machine using the normal wash cycle. By the way, baking powder and lemon juice have the same stain-removing properties. If both home remedies don’t help, there are also products that can help you fight blood stains.

4. Washing tip for period stains: Never go without the wash cycle
No matter how you worked on the stain beforehand, always put the item of clothing in the washing machine afterwards. Important: Pretreatment is important because not every wash cycle – especially if it is not a hot wash – can remove the stains on its own. 5. Washing tip for period stains: seek advice from a professional
If all else fails, just repeat the whole process again. Blood stains that have dried for a particularly long time can sometimes only be removed completely with the second treatment. However, if it is a particularly fine material such as silk or satin, you should send the items of clothing to a professional dry cleaner.
