Samsung has just detailed the smartphones that will spend 2 to 3 years of software support. There are obviously flagships, but also mid-range phones.

During the last Galaxy Unpacked, during which Samsung unveiled the new Galaxy Note 20 among others, the South Korean manufacturer explained wanting to improve the software support of its smartphones a little more. Already very responsive for security updates, Samsung then claimed that some of its phones would go from 2 to 3 generations of Android updates.
Complementing this announcement, the world’s leading smartphone maker was keen to detail its comments by releasing a full list of eligible devices. So here are the phones that will receive 3 major Android updates:
- Galaxy S20, Galaxy S20+, Galaxy S20 Ultra, Galaxy S10, Galaxy S10 +, Galaxy S10e, Galaxy S10 Lite ;
- Galaxy Note 20, Galaxy Note 20 Ultra, Galaxy Note 10+, Galaxy Note 10, Galaxy Note 10 Lite ;
- Galaxy Fold, Galaxy Z Flip, Galaxy Z Fold 2 ;
- Galaxy A71, Galaxy A51, Galaxy A90;
- Galaxy Tab S7+, Galaxy Tab S7, Galaxy Tab S6, Galaxy Tab S6 Lite.
Of course, the 5G versions of the smartphones listed here are also affected.
A sustainable policy
In addition to this list of devices, Samsung specifies that all upcoming devices in the Galaxy S, Galaxy Note, Galaxy Z and Galaxy Tab S ranges will also be maintained for 3 years. As for the Galaxy A series, only a few will be entitled to this privilege. We imagine that the selection will take place according to the sales volume and the height in range.
« By supporting up to three generations of Android updates, we extend the lifecycle of our Galaxy products and promise to provide a simple and secure mobile experience that will take advantage of the latest innovations as they become available.», Explains Janghyun Yoon, vice president in charge of software.
Thus, this decision will allow for example the Galaxy S20 to switch to Android 11 and then be updated to Android 13.
