A terrible story. In Val-de-Marne, a pregnant woman lost her baby in the sixth month of pregnancy, in early February. If this ordeal was already very painful, the situation worsened. The Kremlin-Bicêtre hospital, where she gave birth to this stillborn child, told her that the morgue was wrong and that they had buried the wrong child. A terrible mistake that the young mother agreed to tell the Parisian.
As she explains daily, Claire * had to be inducted on February 2, to give birth to her fifth child: a stillborn girl, in the sixth month of pregnancy, named Shayana. A very difficult moment for the mother and her relatives… made worse by a first error from the hospital. While she had announced that she did not want to see the child’s body if it was too damaged, “The coffin was open” during the funeral of the little girl, on February 19. “I shouted, shouted”, remembers the mother to the Parisian.
An angry mother
But if she thought she was at the end of her sentence, she received a phone call that she really did not expect a few days later. On February 23, the hospital told him that it was not Shayana’s body buried in the Vitry-sur-Seine cemetery, but that of another child. An error of the morgue, inconceivable for Claire. At first, she even thought it was a joke. “I’m already going through the pain of losing my baby. But in addition, the hospital tells me that the child I buried in the cemetery is not mine! “, she says.
The establishment apologized to both families and offered to “Accompany them in their efforts to organize new funerals and exhumations in order to return the body wrongly buried to its family”. They will also bear all the costs. “This exceptional event is due to human error on the day of the funeral of the first child. The identity-vigilance procedures in fact provide for a double check of the body’s identity bracelet, which has not been carried out ”, explained the hospital to the Parisian.
Despite their apologies, Shayana’s parents are furious. Especially because burying the body of a child is very complicated. They must also wait for the agreement of the town hall and the police. “I have nothing to do with the apologies of the hospital director. If these people in the morgue are fed up with seeing bodies, let them change jobs! I am a nursing assistant, so I know this environment a little. We are very careful, there are procedures, checks… ”, Claire annoys in the daily columns. Today, she hopes that other families will never have to suffer such a mistake.
