Vancouver Coastal Health (VCH) issued two public health notifications on Thursday, August 28, 2025, concerning potential Hepatitis A exposure. The alerts relate to separate incidents: one involving a possible exposure at the Sea Monkey Coffee food truck and another concerning a case in Gibsons, British Columbia.
The first notification details potential exposure from food served at the Sea Monkey coffee truck, wich operated at the Sunday Cider bar between August 1 and August 25, 2025. The second alert, previously reported by Chek News, focuses on a Hepatitis A case identified in Gibsons. While the risk of transmission is considered low in both situations, VCH is urging individuals who consumed food from the truck or may have been exposed to monitor for symptoms.
Symptoms of Hepatitis A include fatigue, decreased appetite, unexplained weight loss, discomfort under the right rib cage, muscle aches, and jaundice – a condition causing yellowing of the skin or eyes. VCH states that a vaccine is available and can provide protection against infection within two weeks of exposure.
The Canadian Press initially reported this story on August 29, 2025.
