Helpless, the rupiah weakened and penetrated to Rp. 14,900 per US dollar this afternoon

KONTAN.CO.ID – JAKARTA. The rupiah exchange rate on the spot market continues to be under pressure until midday today. On Thursday (24/9), the spot rupiah was trapped at the level of Rp. 14,900 per US dollar.

As a result, the rupiah weakened 0.57% compared to Wednesday’s closing (23/9) at Rp 14,815 per US dollar. This movement of the rupiah is in line with all currencies in the region.

As of 12:00 WIB, the South Korean won remains the currency with the deepest weakness in Asia after dropping 0.67%. Followed by the Taiwan dollar which weakened 0.59% against the greenback.

Furthermore, there was the Indian rupee which corrected 0.39% and the Malaysian ringgit also eroded 0.32%. Followed by the Singapore dollar and Chinese yuan, which depreciated 0.25% and 0.16%, respectively.

Next, the Thai baht fell 0.15% and the Philippine peso was down 0.13% this afternoon. Meanwhile, the Japanese yen edged down 0.06% against the US dollar.

Meanwhile, the Hong Kong dollar looks stable with a tendency to weaken in trading this afternoon.
