Joana Heidrich and Anouk Vergé-Dépré were beaten in the semi-finals of the Worlds in Rome. The Zurich and Bernese lost 21-19 21-13 to the Brazilians Duda / Ana Patricia.
It took just over 40 minutes for the favorites from South America to get the better of the bronze medalists at the Tokyo Olympics.
The Swiss held the shock during the initial set before letting slip the Brazilians, seeded no. 2, during a second round where we quickly felt that they no longer believed it. Back at 10-11, the 2020 European champions still had a chance to make the South Americans doubt. Only they were not precise enough to shake their opponents who scored ten points against only three for the Helvetians.

But the two women can still dream of a world medal since they will have the opportunity to play for bronze against the pair Svenja Müller/Cinja Tillmann who were dominated by the Canadians Sophie Bukovec/Brandie Wilkerson.
If they win bronze on Sunday, it will be Switzerland’s third world medal. The first two were won by male duos: the Laciga brothers in 1999 and Paul Laciga with Sascha Heyer in 2005. Silver each time.
