Heavy sentence demanded for an abusive coach

The Crown is asking for a record sentence of 18 years in prison for an equestrian trainer from Montérégie who sexually abused a dozen young riders for nearly 20 years.

“It is time for courts and judges to hand down tougher sentences for sex crimes committed against children because society has changed and it is able to see the consequences of these crimes on children”, pleaded yesterday with fervor Me Geneviève Beaudin, at the Sorel-Tracy courthouse.

The prosecutor therefore suggested that Judge Denys Noël impose this heavy sentence of 18 years in penitentiary on Clément Lamoureux for the heinous crimes he committed between 1998 and 2017.

The 67-year-old pleaded guilty in February to a string of charges ranging from touching and assaulting multiple people to inciting sexual touching while in a position of authority.

Owner of stables in Saint-Amable, then in Sainte-Julie, he abused 12 young girls, all minors, with the exception of one.

The youngest victim was 12 at the time of the traumatic offenses, while Lamoureux was over 45.

If the judge agrees to the Crown’s suggestion, it would be a record sentence for a coach guilty of sexual acts on his students, according to our information.

By comparison, the former alpine ski coach Bertrand Charest had initially been sentenced to 12 years in prison for similar crimes committed against nine young women. The Court of Appeal reduced the sentence to 10 years and three months.

Blowjob contest

Lamoureux still had the same modus operandi. If the riders agreed to work for him for free, they could ride horses as they pleased. But in the stable, everything revolved around sex, everything was a pretext to fiddle with them, according to what was reported at court.

Some victims had their breasts and buttocks touched, others had full sex with Lamoureux on several occasions.

A 14-year-old teenager also had to participate in sex with her coach and his wife.

Even more disturbing, the trainer even satiated his low instincts by creating fellatio contests between two young girls, in which several adults were present.

He wants four times less

Me Rodrigue Beauchesne, of the defense, has called for a sentence four times less severe than that of the Crown, a little less than four years of detention.

As Lamoureux has been imprisoned since his arrest in June 2019, he would therefore only have two years less a day left to serve in a provincial prison.

♦ Judge Denys Noël will rule in two weeks.

Heard in court

“The young girls were free to go there or go to another stable. They were not prisoners like skiers competing in Europe [les victimes du coach Charest]. »

– Me Rodrigue Beauchesne, defense lawyer

« It is a prejudice to say that the victims could have left. It’s like saying that a victim is guilty of not having struggled. “

– Me Geneviève Beaudin, of the Crown

« It was a structured ploy, over and over again, so that everyone ended up finding it trivial. […] There are young girls who must have struggled because just saying no was not enough. These were not all young girls who believed in love, there were also forced gestures. »

– Me Geneviève Beaudin, of the Crown

« [Une ado] was still sitting on top of me. Probably I fell for it, I am not a saint. “

– Clément Lamoureux, aggressor

“Yes, my father is a ladies’ man. But he did not provoke the fact of being surrounded by young girls. It is the middle of the horses which is like that. He got carried away by what was going on around. “

– Véronique Lamoureux, daughter of the aggressor
