Heavy thunderstorms have led to hundreds of fire brigade operations across Austria. Melk was particularly devastated in Lower Austria.
In SalzburgThe Pongau and Pinzgau were particularly affected, more than 100 fire departments moved out because of mudslides, flooded streets, cellars and fallen trees.
In Tirolthe heavy rain led to several mudslides, for example in the Kaunertal, the Langen Tal and Sölden.
In the SteiermarkThe Murtal was particularly affected: around 6 p.m. the sky darkened over the communities Lobmingtal, Knittelfeld, Seckau and St. Marein-Feistritz. Violent thunderstorms erupted, hail showers and heavy rain fell. A mudslide devastated state road 504 between Großlobming and Kleinlobming – the swimming pool was also muddy. In St. Marein-Feistritz, a woman with a baby was trapped in a mudslide – the fire brigade moved out to free her. 160 firefighters were busy cleaning up until late at night.
