But first the hottest facts from Germany: Our record is 41.2 degrees, measured by the German Weather Service (DWD) on July 25, 2019 in Duisburg and Tönisvorst on the Lower Rhine near Krefeld. Yesterday, Tuesday (July 19), it was 39.5 degrees there (Duisburg-Baerl station) – the warmest place in the nation.
Meanwhile, on the Germans’ favorite island, it remains at 36 degrees today. Only at the weekend does it look a bit warmer on Mallorca – but it doesn’t go over 40 degrees.

The focus of the heat is now shifting “further eastwards, where similarly high temperatures can then occur”. The DWD had announced highs of 34 to 38 degrees in large parts of the country and occasionally expected up to 40 degrees.

Hamburg will most likely break heat records
► Graduate meteorologist Karsten Brandt from Donnerwetter.de is brief and provides values for today’s Wednesday: “Hanover and Hamelin 39 to 40 degrees, Wolfsburg 39, Braunschweig 39, Lüneburg Heath 39, Magdeburg 39, Hamburg 38, Lübeck 37. Temperatures will halve overnight
“Tomorrow the situation will calm down again, but then only 20 degrees will be reached around Hamburg, the temperature values will halve more or less overnight. In the middle and in the south it will continue to be very warm to hot. There is hardly any rain in sight there,” summed up meteorologist Jung. But: “Next Sunday and Monday it’s that time again.” Means: maximum values of up to 39 degrees, which can also be 40 or 41 degrees regionally.
And Germany’s neighbors are also sweating
In Madrid it will be up to 38 degrees today, in Rome 33 and even in Copenhagen the temperatures will rise to 30 degrees.
