Jakarta – Chairman of the Indonesian Cardiovascular Specialist Doctors Association Isman Firdaus reminded people with a history of heart disease not to be exposed to Covid-19. He explained, actually heart problems are more dangerous than the transmission of Covid-19.
“Because when infected with Covid-19 it will accelerate the process of acute heart failure. That’s why we are worried that heart patients should not be exposed to Covid-19, ”he said during the BNPB virtual conference on the theme of being aware of the long-term effects of Covid-19, Thursday (3 December 2020).
“Because if you are exposed to Covid-19, treatment is difficult and the death rate is high. Moreover, the Covid-19 medicine is still difficult, “he said.
According to him, heart patients who are infected with Covid-19 may have decreased right heart function and may experience decreased levels of oxygen in the blood (hypoxia). This of course causes the potential for blood vessel pressure.
Therefore, he asked people with heart problems, starting from the ring insertion, bypass surgery, to the control to a cardiologist and taking routine medicines, must continue to maintain one of these vital organs.
He added that any infection, not only Covid-19, if you have a cardiovascular disease, can trigger acute heart disease. Regarding the possibility that people with heart problems who survive this virus infection can experience long Covid-19 symptoms.
